According to numerous reports, most notably Neil Jones of the Liverpool Echo, the Reds have agreed a fee with Manchester City over the sale of Raheem Sterling.
The fee in question is £49m, just £1m short of Liverpool’s valuation of the want-away youngster.
This news comes just hours after it was revealed that Sterling would not join Liverpool on their pre-season tour to Asia, joining Mario Balotelli, Fabio Borini and Jose Enrique back on Merseyside.
This latest bid comes after a number of unsuccessful attempts from City to snare Sterling.
Over the last few weeks, the Manchester club have offered £35m and £40m for Sterling’s signature, but each was turned down by Liverpool.
The Liverpool Echo understands that the deal that has been accepted is worth £49m, but also includes an assortment of ‘performance-related add-ons’ that will likely make the fee meet the original valuation of £50m.
Raheem Sterling has now been granted permission to speak to Manchester City, in order to discuss personal terms and to complete a medical.
At long last, it appears the transfer saga is all but over.
