Raheem Sterling is expected to be on Liverpool’s pre-season tour next week when the squad fly out to Thailand.
It had been expected that Manchester City were going to submit a third bid since the Reds had rejected and improved offer of £35m rising to £40m last month.
However City are keen to avoid meeting Liverpool’s £50m valuation of the 20-year-old, so as of yet there has been no more contact between the two clubs.
Sterling and the rest of the Liverpool squad returned to Melwood for pre-season training on Monday, a week before they fly out to Thailand to play their first game in Bangkok. City will travel to Australia for an 11-day training camp on Thursday.
The England international has two years remaining on his £35,000-a-week contract and has been told that unless the club receive what they deem an acceptable bid that he will remain there until his contract runs out.
This isn’t the first time that Brendan Rodgers has had to deal with a player wanting to move to a Premier League rival.
Two years ago, Luis Suarez tried to engineer a move to Arsenal, but despite the Uruguayan’s demands the club stood firm and told him that he was going nowhere.
It is likely that Sterling will be one of many players arriving on the blue side of Manchester after UEFA have relaxed their Financial Fair Play restrictions.
