Raheem Sterling has been awarded with the prestigious European Golden Boy Award for 2014 for his efforts over the last 12 months.
Previous winners of the competition – Messi, Pogba and Aguero to name three – go to show how big an award it is for young players and the calibre that are involved.
After picking up his award, this is what Sterling had to say:
“It’s a great achievement to win such an award like this. It’ll be a really happy feeling for me and my family, of course. It’s something I’ve always tried to do is work hard, play football and be recognised, so I’m really grateful that people have shown me some recognition.”
“As a young player, everyone dreams of being an Aguero or a Messi, but it’s just down to hard work really. I’m really happy that people recognise I’m working hard and trying to do my best for this football club.”
“There’s always room for improvement. At this moment in time I should be a few goals up. I’ve not taken some of my chances this year. I’m a young man learning all the time and this award just shows that hard work gets you where you want to be.”
It’s a boost for Raheem, who it’s fair to say has been asked to take on more responsibility this year at Liverpool, and it’s an award that’s thoroughly deserved.
