Tevez heading to Anfield?

In a piece of business that would appear to be a move away from FSG’s previous strategy again this summer, Italian source Tuttomercatoweb.net suggest that Liverpool are in pole position to sign Argentinian striker Carlos Tevez.

Rumours had been floating around in recent days in the run-up to the Champions League final, but this appears to be the first concreate story on the possible transfer, coming just hours after Juventus lost to Barcelona 3-1 in Berlin.

In a move that would please most Liverpool fans, the transfer of Tevez would add both goal-scoring ability and a brilliant work ethic to the Reds, with his closing down and energy levels being ideal to what Brendan Rodgers is trying to create at Liverpool, with high pressing and an enthusiasm for winning the ball high up the park.

The former West Ham United, Manchester United and Manchester City striker is known to want to end his playing days in his native Argentina, but at the age of 31 still has plenty to offer football at the highest level.

It is worth taking these reports with a pinch of salt at present, but it would be interesting to follow in the coming weeks, as Tevez would match the experienced striker that Liverpool are known to be looking for.

Tevez would not need to worry about first team opportunities with the club, as Rodgers has already hinted that he can’t trust Daniel Sturridge to see out a complete season due to his woeful injury record.
