Reports have emerged which say that Brendan Rodgers intends to keep 22 year old Andre Wisdom at the club next season following his loan spells at Derby County and West Bromwich Albion.
According to The Daily Mail’s Joe Bernstein, Rodgers will immediately implement him at right back into next season’s starting eleven.
With the departures of Glen Johnson and Jose Enrique looking likely, plus Jon Flanagan’s long term injury diagnosis and Rodgers’ transfer funds ideally needed to strengthen the squad in other areas, Wisdom could be recalled straight back into contention as the manager looks to build back a squad ready for competing with other title competitors.
This would then allow Emre Can to be moved back into a more natural midfield role as club legend Steven Gerrard leaves for LA Galaxy.
It is thought that Rodgers believes Wisdom can emulate Flanagan’s fantastic season of 2013-2014 and is willing to give him a chance before searching for a replacement elsewhere.
The young Scouser was an integral part of the squad which finished 2nd to Manchester City in the Premier League.
Javi Manquillo would provide cover and Alberto Moreno would occupy the left back spot.
Wisdom has struggled at the Hawthorns since Tony Pulis’ arrival and as the end of the season approaches, the full back’s loan will end and he will return to Merseyside. The 22 year old, who can also play at centre half, provides strength, power and good bursts of energy down the flank.
