Virals: Andy Robertson makes early steps towards fitness

Liverpool full-back Andy Robertson looks to have made a remarkable recovery from an ankle ligament injury.

Fans feared the worse a fortnight ago when the 27-year-old was forced off in the pre-season match against Athletic Club with what looked to be a badly rolled ankle.

Following a scan the next day it was confirmed damage was indeed done, but Jurgen Klopp was relieved that it appeared the Reds had ‘got lucky‘ with the diagnosis.

Despite the German manager not expecting a return until after the international break, Robertson looks to be ahead of schedule as the Scot made an individual return to training on Monday afternoon.

In the absence of the Scotland captain, Liverpool overcame Norwich City 3-0 with Kostas Tsimikas deputising at left-back.

The Greek international earned an average Sofascore rating of 6.80 against the Canaries and is set to start this weekend when the Reds welcome Burnley to Anfield.

However, Robertson’s return to the pitch could culminate in a return to competitive action next week when Chelsea head to Merseyside.

Last Saturday was the first Premier League fixture Robertson has missed since June 2020.

The £58.8million valued star (Transfermarkt), played in all 38 league games last season and earned an impressive 7.07 rating in the process.

Given the rotten luck the Reds suffered with injuries last term, Klopp will no doubt be delighted to welcome Robertson back into the fold sooner than expected.
