Virals: Liverpool told ‘No-one Can Leave’ proposed ESL

In what was one of the murkiest weeks in the history of Liverpool and indeed football itself, the Reds were part of a breakaway of 12 clubs looking to start a new European Super League.

Billed as a rival to the UEFA Champions League – a competition the club has won six times – fan backlash soon led to the Anfield club and others pull out one by one.

Within hours all of the English participants, including the Reds, had backtracked on their involvement and the proposal seemed dead in the water.

However, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez and in many people’s eyes one of the main protagonists behind the league has warned Liverpool that ‘no-one can leave” the project.

Perez told El Transistor, as reported by the Liverpool Echo and cited by Liverpool FC News on Twitter, that the ordeal is far from over.

The Spanish chief still maintains that the much-maligned league will move forwards and suggested ‘the courts in Luxembourg’ will decide what happens next.

Well, it would seem the wholly embarrassing saga hasn’t quite been put to bed just yet.

Despite making a fresh stance abundantly clear, Liverpool’s involvement from the start has tainted Fenway Sports Group’s ownership at Anfield and Jurgen Klopp’s disdain towards the idea was clear for all to see.

At a time where all involved at the club should be concentrating on transfers, regaining faith from supporters and wrestling back a Premier League trophy, a case such as this getting dragged through the courts is the last thing the Reds need.
