Wales boss Giggs feels Woodburn can push for first-team spot

Wales boss Ryan Giggs believes Liverpool youngster Ben Woodburn can push for a first-team place for next season.

Giggs, as quoted by BBC Sport, believes that Woodburn is incredibly talented and hopes to see the young forward featuring more in first-team encounters next season.

Ben’s a very good talent and come pre-season he’ll be pushing to get into that first team.

At the age of 17, Woodburn became the youngest goal-scorer in Liverpool’s history, after scoring against Leeds United in the EFL Cup in 2016/17 campaign.

But this season, he has made only two appearances for Liverpool, with Jurgen Klopp understandably favouring the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

Woodburn has, however, travelled with the Liverpool squad for their Champions League final against Real Madrid.

Wales boss Giggs says that first-team football will teach the young players about themselves and test their abilities, but he has acknowledged how difficult it can be to break into the starting line-up of a prestigious club such as Liverpool.

Every player wants to play, that’s where you learn about yourself and get tested but it’s difficult when you’re at big clubs. Obviously the front players at Liverpool have been on fire this season so it’s been difficult.

I’m sure he’s [Woodburn] learnt seeing them at close hand and knows what he needs to do to get into that first team.
