Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed the bad news that winger Xherdan Shaqiri tore a calf muscle whilst on international duty and as such, he will be unavailable for the start of pre-season.
The Swiss star returned to Melwood on Monday but he will be focussing on rehabilitating his injured calf, meaning he won’t take part in any of the upcoming friendly matches.

Speaking to the official Liverpool website, Klopp said:
Shaq is still injured from the national team and it will take a while until he is [back] again. He has a tear in his calf, so he will not be involved for a while.
Shaqiri suffered an injury during Switzerland’s Nations League third-place playoff against England on June 9th and it’s now been confirmed that he tore a part of his calf muscle.
The injury will rule the Swiss winger out of the upcoming friendly games with Tranmere and Bradford and it’ll remain to be seen how much of the other scheduled friendly games he takes part in.
