Liverpool have been linked with a move for Paris Saint-Germain striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic as they look to find a solution to their striking woes.
Italian media outlet Tuttomercatoweb have reported that the Swede is disillusioned with life in Paris and is looking for a move, with the Premier League a possible destination.
He scored freely in Ligue 1 last term finding the net 19 times in 24 appearances. If he could bring this sort of form to Anfield he could prove to be the marquee signing Reds fans are after following last summers departure of recent Champions League winner Luis Suárez to Barcelona.
An approach would be a signal of intent to the rest of the Premier League and would no doubt improve the side’s striking options.
PSG are said to be willing to do business for around £11m but even if the Reds’ management are willing to stump up the cash the player may demand £300,000 per week in wages, which would make him the club’s highest earner.
Furthermore, any move would almost certainly depend on a striker being sold this window after Monday’s confirmation that Danny Ings will join the club.
The Reds may also face competition from rivals Chelsea and Arsenal, as well as AC Milan, for a deal.
A move would seem to go against FSG’s transfer policy to date with Ibrahimovic already being 33-years-old and past the prime years of his career.
However, he could provide the good back-up the side lacked last season when Daniel Sturridge was consistency plagued with injury.
The combined forces of Balotelli, Borini and Lambert scored four goals between them in the league and a similar return this season would simply not be good enough.
Zlatan’s goalscoring record suggests he can provide the firepower and it may be needed since Rodgers has hinted that Sturridge may not be able to complete a full season given his chequered past with injuries.
