Napoli opt for Ospina over Simon Mignolet

Simon Mignolet’s future at Liverpool remains unclear, but any chance of a move to Napoli appears to now be off.

Last season’s Serie A runners-up are closing in on a deal to sign David Ospina from Arsenal, with the player expected in Italy tomorrow to undergo a medical.

Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has confirmed that the Colombian is closing in on a move to Italy.

It had been widely reported that the Naples club were interested in the Arsenal shot-stopper, who was expected to leave the club this summer.

The Gunners are happy to let the goalkeeper leave the club this summer following the arrival of German goalkeeper Bernd Leno.

After joining from Bayer Leverkusen, Leno will rival Petr Cech for the number one spot at the club, making game time highly unlikely for Ospina this season.

Mignolet himself has fallen out of favour at Anfield, with Alisson’s arrival appearing to make him the club’s third-choice goalkeeper.
