Liverpool forward Divock Origi has been ruled out of both of the Reds’ games against Chelsea this week with an ankle injury.

The Belgian striker aggravated a long-standing problem whilst playing for the club’s U23’s and as such, he will be out for at least a week.

In truth, Origi would have been highly unlikely to be included in the squad for the game at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening but he would have been in consideration for the Carabao Cup game at Anfield on Wednesday.

Speaking about Origi’s injury, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said:

Divock is not far away but it’s an ankle thing and a very unfortunate situation. We will be very careful. The ankle was the problem he had after the Everton game years ago. He will be back, I’m pretty sure, next week, but not now.

The Everton game in question took place in April 2016, when Ramiro Funes Mori’s awful challenge saw him seriously injure Origi.

The striker will be hoping to get fit soon and potentially play in the next round of the EFL Cup if Liverpool can progress past Chelsea.
