Liverpool Player Ratings: Red Star Belgrade (A)

Liverpool slumped to a 2-0 defeat against Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League on Tuesday evening.

The Reds travelled to Serbia full of confidence following their 4-0 win against Red Star in the reverse fixture but turned in an abject display as they were swept aside.

Daniel Sturridge spurned a chance early on in the first half and Liverpool were made to pay for their mistakes, as Red Star took a two-goal lead before the break.

Milan Pavkov nodded the hosts ahead on his full Champions League debut before extending his side’s lead with a fine strike.

Liverpool pushed to complete an unlikely comeback in the second half and came close on occasions. Andrew Robertson’s deflected ball in came off the crossbar before Mohamed Salah’s effort struck the post.

Ultimately, the Reds were made to pay for missed opportunities and a lack of urgency in the first-half.
