Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has accepted a charge of misconduct after he ran on to the pitch to celebrate his side’s 96th-minute winner against Everton at Anfield on Sunday.
The German ran onto the field to hug goalkeeper Allison after Divock Origi nodded home from close range after Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford made a mess of a miss-hit shot from Virgil van Dijk.
Klopp’s punishment for the misdemeanour is fine of £8000 and a warning about his future conduct.
Speaking after Sunday’s game, Klopp apologised for his actions:
I have to apologise because I didn’t want to be disrespectful – but I couldn’t stop myself. If I could describe how I felt when the goal went in, then I would have control over it. We don’t want to look for excuses but that’s how it is. The plan was not to run. When I chose to stop, I was close to Alisson. He was surprised!
