The End of 2018 Liverpool FC Awards
Well, 2018 is all but over, with 2019 to come and with it, hopefully, a league title win for Liverpool Football Club.
It’s been an amazing 12 months to be a Liverpool fan. From Ragnar Klavan’s winner against Burnley to Roberto Firmino’s hat-trick sealing penalty against Arsenal, we’ve seen plenty of great things from the Reds, and a few rubbish moments too.
To look back on the amazing year, here are my awards for the season.
Player of the Year
It’s got to be Mo Salah, hasn’t it? He scores every week! It’s actually a bit upsetting watching him kick it in the net so often as it makes me doubt if some of my childhood goalscoring heroes were as good as I thought as this fella makes them look as prolific as Sean Dundee.
Signing of the Year
The Reds have made some quality additions in 2018 but this was an easy choice. We signed the best defender I’ve ever seen back in January. Honestly, we probably should send Southampton another £200m for Virgil van Dijk. We’d still be getting a bargain if we did too.
Time Where Watching The Reds Almost Got Me Dumped By My Fiancee
As someone who watches the Reds a lot, I have to admit, I do annoy the family on occasions. However, the winner of this one was easy. New Years Day, Burnley away. I gave up my ticket for the game as my fiancee was due to give birth. She happened to have our baby daughter on New Years Day. Still, I got to see Raggy’s winner.
Missus’ water decided to break earlier this afternoon. Luckily, there’s WiFi here so I got to watch the game ? pic.twitter.com/ZqbPLxIEeT

Best Moment
There were a few great ones. Salah’s goal against Man City away, Van Dijk’s header against Everton, Xherdan Shaqiri against Man United, but this was another no-brainer. It’s Divock Origi’s winner against Everton. Oh, that was just the best. The sheer Everton-ness of it all was just magic. I loved it so much.
Worst Moment
Ah, Loris Karius. F**k’s sake.
Funniest Moment
Another easy one for me. It’s absolutely the Everton fan who threw the flare onto the pitch to celebrate a 0-0 draw, seconds before Jordan Pickford’s teeny tiny little arms came to our rescue.
Favourite Player
Gini Wijnaldum. What a fella he is. People wanted him sold in the summer. Now he’s bossing midfield all over the show. First midfielder on the team sheet now. Great smile too. I like singing his song as well.
Most Improved Player
I honestly used to scratch my head when people said Joe Gomez would be a top-class centre back. I thought he had too many moments at fullback where he switched off. I was wrong. He’s unreal. Both he and the coaching staff should be proud of his improvement.
Opposition Player I’ve Hated the Most
Ashley Young. He’s a T**t, isn’t he?
Best Song of the Year
Allez Allez Allez is pretty boss, but I’m going for the new Firmino song. I like that one.
Worst Song of the Year
When Soccer AM tried to get us to sing that “Oh Mane Mane, We Sold Coutinho” one. Bad that. Really bad.
Best Celebration
Loved Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s two against City but it has to be Jurgen Klopp’s sprint against the Blues. Like a German Usain Bolt, he was.
