Lescott believes no Liverpool player would get into City’s team
Former Manchester City and Everton defender Joleon Lescott has claimed that not one of the Liverpool players could get into City’s starting 11, in an interview with Sporting Bet.
The statement came as Lescott said that Pep Guardiola’s side are the “only team” capable of winning the quadruple and are “the best team” that has been assembled.
Formerly at Everton, the centre-back predicted ex-Liverpool man Raheem Sterling as Premier League Player of the Year, if Sergio Aguero doesn’t pip him to it.
Although, he believes Alisson or Van Dijk will be in contention for the award if Liverpool go on to win the league.
Lescott also made the claim that Aymeric Laporte and Liverpool’s Dutchman aren’t too dissimilar, saying:
From a Man City perspective, I have been very impressed with Laporte this season, who has arguably made a similar impact to what Van Dijk has at Liverpool.
According to Lescott, who made over 100 appearances for City, PSG were the biggest threat to Guardiola’s men in the Champions League, but they could still slip up in the latter stages of the tournament due to their lack of experience in the business end of the competition.
City face Tottenham in the quarter-final of the Champions League in April while Liverpool are facing Porto. Despite many thinking that Liverpool have had the “lucky draws” in the competition, Lescott thought the opposite.
Manchester City have possibly been a touch fortunate in the draws for the cup competitions, but you can only beat what’s in front of you.
As regards to the title race, the former Blue said that it was “Liverpool’s to lose” earlier in the season, but “it’s now in City’s hands and they won’t let it slip.”
When asked, Lescott said that the Manchester derby was the biggest he’s ever played in – bigger than the Merseyside derby.
But, the 36-year-old did say that Everton fans will be disappointed with their recent derby performances.
Everton fans will look back and wish they had done more to beat Liverpool and put the brakes on Liverpool’s Premier League title-winning dreams.
It’s safe to say that the ex-Everton man’s allegiances haven’t altered.
