There have been some memorable games between Liverpool and Arsenal down the years.
Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has often named Anfield as his favourite away ground and the Gunners head there on Saturday evening.
Both teams have maximum points after two Premier League games apiece this season, so something has to give this weekend.
The first-ever meeting between two of England’s greatest clubs took place in October 1893, with Liverpool thumping Arsenal 5-0 in the old Second Division.
The two sides would go on to be two of the most successful football teams in the country, winning a combined 46 major honours.
As such, a rivalry has bloomed.
Liverpool have won 87 of the meetings between the pair, compared to the Gunners’ tally of 78. The other 61 have ended in a draw.
The Reds are on an eight-game unbeaten streak against the north London side, dating back to April 2015.
Meanwhile, Arsenal haven’t won at Anfield in seven years, with Jurgen Klopp undefeated in the fixture.
There are so many games to choose from, but what is Liverpool’s best home win against Arsenal in the Premier League?
Here are five that stand out.
Liverpool 4-1 Arsenal - March 2007
One with the right, one with the head and one with the left – Peter Crouch proved he was more than just a targetman with a beautiful hat-trick that Lionel Messi would have been proud of.
Daniel Agger added the other and Liverpool would eventually finish above Arsenal in 2006/07, helped by these three points.
Liverpool 2-1 Arsenal - November 2004
Don’t let the scoreline fool you, this was an impressive win.
This was the Arsenal team that had lost just one match in the previous 54, going unbeaten the season before.
It took a Neil Mellor wonder strike to win it in the 90th minute, stunning the Gunners at Anfield, after Xabi Alonso and Patrick Vieira had exchanged goals.
It still produces goosebumps to this day – it’s one of those goals and games Liverpool fans will always remember.
Liverpool 5-1 Arsenal - February 2014
The day the title challenge became real, as Premier League leaders Arsenal were demolished on Merseyside.
Liverpool were in a pretty dire state prior to the 2013/14 season, but it all seemed a distant memory when Daniel Sturridge made it 4-0 in the opening 20 minutes.
The nation woke up to the offensive juggernaut that was Sturridge, Luis Suarez and Raheem Sterling.
Liverpool 3-0 Arsenal - August 1994
It’s almost 25 years to the day since a 19-year-old Robbie Fowler blitzed the Gunners with a four-minute hat trick.
The fastest treble in Premier League history at the time, it has since been broken by Sadio Mane during his Southampton days.
Fowler’s hat-trick was, and still is, a truly iconic moment.
Liverpool 5-1 Arsenal - December 2018
Liverpool’s most recent win is also their best.
Roberto Firmino scored a hat-trick and had two goals within the first 16 minutes, including a dazzling solo run.
The Reds cruised to victory with further efforts from Mane and a penalty from Mohamed Salah.
The Egyptian then passed off the second penalty to Firmino so he could complete the hat-trick.
A historic win: it marked Liverpool’s 54th point in the first 20 games; their best start to a season. It was also just the 3rd time the Reds’ have been unbeaten in the first 20 games.
A real dominant display in the Reds’ best ever Premier League season.
