Alisson back in training for Liverpool this weekend – a massive boost

Jurgen Klopp has revealed that Alisson will return to training on Sunday, in what acts a huge boost for Liverpool.

The Brazilian has been missing since injuring his calf in the opening Premier League game of the season against Norwich City.

Speaking in his pre-Sheffield United press conference on Friday, Klopp confirmed that Alisson’s return is edging ever closer, with Sunday pencilled in for training:

Ali is on a good way, yesterday he had a full session—not with us, but with the goalkeeping coaches.

So [he is] getting closer and closer, we will see now, we have to talk to the medical department.

So Ali looks like he is close, but the final word is with the medical department obviously, because we have to ask how it is exactly. That’s it.

Ali is not in contention for tomorrow, it looks like maybe he can train with the team from Sunday on, but we don’t know 100 percent. It’s really close.

This is a major piece of positive news for the Reds, considering Alisson’s status as arguably the world’s best goalkeeper currently.

Liverpool have actually fared superbly without the Brazilian, winning every league game and also clinching UEFA Super Cup glory, but his return is still massive.

Adrian has done excellently in his place, but Alisson brings an aura between the sticks that is priceless.

Liverpool haven’t looked quite as secure defensively without him and the sooner he is back in the side the better.
