Liverpool’s players were furious with referee Martin Atkinson for not giving a foul by Victor Lindelof on Divock Origi in the build-up to Manchester United’s first goal. Even so, the decision was then referred to VAR and, despite the footage clearly showing Lindelof catching Origi, the goal was allowed to stand.

As one could expect, Liverpool’s supporters were not happy with the decision and took to social media to vent their frustrations.

The foul on Origi was clear but the problem with VAR is that the bar to overturn decisions is just too high. Lindelof clearly kicks Origi but once the referee hadn’t awarded a free-kick, it was never going to be given by VAR.

Liverpool didn’t perform too well in truth, and did well to get a point, but they’ll still be annoyed at the manner of the first goal as it clearly should have been ruled out by VAR.
