Liverpool dropped their first two points of the league season as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Manchester United away at Old Trafford.
This result keeps the Reds at the top of the table, but their lead has been trimmed to six points. Marcus Rashford and Adam Lallana were the scorers in the game.
After a cagey start that favoured the home side, United took the lead in the 36th minute when Daniel James found Rashford with a perfect cross for the latter to finish.
The goal was scored via a counter-attack, but it was clear that Divock Origi was fouled by Victor Lindelof in the build-up. The sad part was that both the referee and VAR didn’t give the foul.
Liverpool came back into in the second half and got their deserved equaliser late on when an Andy Robertson cross went all the way at the back post for Lallana to tap in
Here’s how we rated Liverpool’s players after the game:
Alisson - 6
First game back, Alisson didn’t have to do too much apart from picking the ball out of the back of the net once. His kicking and passing from the back were good, as per usual.
Trent Alexander-Arnold - 6
The youngster struggled in the first half with and without the ball. He did well after the break and had more control of what he was doing.
Joel Matip - 5
His passing was a bit off radar today and could have done better to stop Rashford’s goal
Liverpool fans won’t forgive him for kicking the ball out when a United player was injured and the game was flowing along!
Virgil van Dijk - 6
The Dutchman wasn’t at his best today but still managed to be assertive on the ball and kept the progress of the opposition under check on the counter.
Andy Robertson - 7
Barring a sloppy start to the game, Robertson was Liverpool’s best player on the pitch. It was his cross that went all the way for Lallana to score.
Fabinho - 5
The Brazilian was pretty good on the ball but his passing was too passive at times. He didn’t manage to get hold of the midfield as he usually does. Booked!
Jordan Henderson - 3
The captain pretty much played as a right winger today and struggled on and off the ball. Subbed off in the second half.
Georginio Wijnaldum - 6
The Dutchman started the game well with good usage of the ball in and around the final third. He petered out as the game went on and had to be subbed off in the second half.
Sadio Mane- 5
Apart from his goa,l which was ruled out due to handball, Mane wasn’t able to be a threat in behind the United defence. Tried hard, but it wasn’t to be for him.
Roberto Firmino - 6
The Brazilian wasn’t at his best and struggled to link the play up in the final third. Had one good chance in the first half which he squandered.
However, he came up with a clever dummy to outfox United defenders and allow Lallana to tap in the equaliser.
Divock Origi - 3
Started on the left wing and struggled to really impact the game offensively. Was switched to the other side after half-time, but that didn’t make much of a difference. Subbed off.
(SUB) Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain - 6
Came on and added something different to the Liverpool midfield/front line. He had two very good attempts on goal and the passing was positive as well.
(SUB) Adam Lallana - 7
The Englishman came on and got in between the lines to give something different for the United defenders to think about.
Later on, he made one good run at the back post to tap home a priceless equaliser.
(SUB) Naby Keita - 7
Came on for the final 10 minutes and made more impact than most midfielders with his positive passing and assertive movements in the final third.
