Joao Felix an injury doubt for Atletico Madrid’s clash with Liverpool

Joao Felix an injury doubt for Atletico Madrid’s clash with Liverpool

Joao Felix could miss Atletico Madrid’s Champions League last-16 first leg clash with Liverpool next month.

The highly-rated Portuguese striker suffered a muscular injury against Leganes on Saturday and could be set for a spell out of the side.

Felix will miss Atletico’s derby clash with Real Madrid this weekend and he is a doubt for the meeting with the Reds, too.

The two sides face each other at the Wanda Metropolitano on February 18th, as Liverpool look to go one step closer to retaining their Champions League crown.

I believe this is an undoubted boost for Liverpool, with Felix a big-money arrival from Benfica last summer, also winning the Golden Boy award last month.

That being said, the Portuguese has failed to fire in Spain thus far, scoring just twice in 17 La Liga appearances.

I expect Liverpool to progress to the quarter-finals, regardless of who starts up front for Atletico.

Diego Simeone’s men have peaked as a side, in my opinion, losing key men such as Diego Godin and Antoine Griezmann.

They remain as solid defensively as ever, conceding only 14 times in 21 league games, but they have also found the net on just 22 occasions.

Liverpool, on the other hand, look without weakness from back to front, with world-class players littered throughout the team, whether it be Alisson, Virgil van Dijk or Sadio Mane, among others.
