In an exclusive interview with The Redmen TV, David Maddock of The Mirror has confirmed that Liverpool will offer Georginio Wijnaldum a new contract amid growing concerns that he could depart in the summer.
The Netherlands international was recently quizzed on his plans for the future and responded somewhat coyly to speculation linking him with a departure from Anfield.
Wijnaldum has been a vital cog in Jurgen Klopp’s plans this season, making a total of 30 appearances in all competitions, but the 29-year-old’s current deal at Liverpool expires at the end of the 2020/21 campaign.
Maddock told The Redmen TV (1:30) that the Reds are poised to hand the Dutchman a new contract, but whether or not he will put pen to paper remains to be seen.

Read Liverpool’s verdict
We think that Wijnaldum is brilliant, and he is having another outstanding season in Liverpool colours.
Klopp has a wealth of options at his disposal in the middle of the park, yet the Netherlands star remains an ever-present, as evidenced by his 30 competitive outings so far this term.
Offering a 29-year-old a new contract could be seen as risky; with Wijnaldum approaching his thirties, he is arguably becoming less marketable, which could somewhat lessen his value.
However, his importance to this Liverpool team has never been greater, in our opinion, and we’ve lost track of the countless times at which he’s patrolled the midfield and ushered the team to vital wins already this season.
We think that Wijnaldum has struck up a great relationship with Jordan Henderson in the middle, and the Reds ought to do everything in their power to retain the services of one of their most consistent performers.
