Liverpool are reportedly failing to agree on terms with Coventry City in their pursuit of Sam McCallum and could be required to double their offer for the defender.
According to claims from 90min, the Reds hold a long-standing interest in signing the full-back, but Norwich City have entered the race for his signature by lodging a bid.
McCallum was, as per reports in the lead-up to the January transfer window, set to sign for Liverpool, but it seems talks have reached a standstill, with Jurgen Klopp’s side offering just £1.5 million and add-ons, according to 90min.
This bid falls short of Coventry’s quoted valuation of the player, it is claimed, with £3 million touted as the price it will take for the Sky Blues to consider selling the 19-year-old.

We think that Liverpool’s pursuit of McCallum should offer encouragement; it is always good to see top clubs vying to sign young talent despite the on-field successes of their first teams.
The Coventry man has been a regular for his side this season. In 25 competitive appearances, he has displayed impressive attacking prowess from left-back, contributing with three goals and two assists.
McCallum’s showings have evidently earned him admiration from Premier League sides, with Norwich and Liverpool apparently keen, and he appears to be a promising player for the future given his attacking output from a deep position.
We think that this is a move that makes sense for the Reds, particularly after the player himself admitted that the speculation linking him with a move to Anfield made him ‘smile’.
Andy Robertson has nailed down the left-back position at Liverpool, while Yasser Larouci has burst onto the scene this season.
However, we reckon that McCallum has a big future, and it would be an intriguing signing for the Reds if they are to pip Norwich.
