Mbappe urged to make summer move to Liverpool

Kylian Mbappe should join Liverpool this summer, according to former Arsenal striker Ian Wright.

The 21-year-old Paris Saint-Germain superstar has been linked with the Reds in recently. He even talked up Jurgen Klopp’s side in an interview with the BBC, labelling them as a “machine”.

Speaking on The Monday Night Club on BBC Radio 5 Live (03/02/20 – 7:35 pm), with quotes provided by the Liverpool Echo, Wright talked up the idea of Mbappe becoming a Red:

You look at Mbappe looking across the way. You can probably see him coming across here. I’d probably want to go to Liverpool [ahead of City] right now. Any player in the world with Liverpool, especially this season.

This has taken like four years where [Klopp] is now so you have to say that Liverpool are at the start of it now.

So if you’re a world class player you probably want to get there now because it seems to me, like we saw with Pep where he’s had two years of unbelievable football, but I feel that Liverpool are really getting ready to build something special.

If I’m Mbappe, I probably am looking at Liverpool. Where else do you want to go, if you’re Mbappe now?

In my opinion, Mbappe is the best signing Liverpool could possibly make this summer. With Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo now in their 30s, Mbappe both represents a long-term addition and is someone who could thrive immediately, having scored 60 goals in 72 Ligue 1 appearances for PSG and already picked up a World Cup winners’ medal with France.

I view him as the most exciting player of his generation, and someone who draws comparisons with past striking legends Ronaldo and Thierry Henry, in terms of style. Blisteringly quick, incredibly gifted and ruthless in the final third, Mbappe has already scored over 100 career goals by the age of 21.

For the Reds to have any chance of signing him, I believe one of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino may have to leave, though. I simply don’t see a scenario where the trio and Mbappe could all fit in the same squad, given their need for regular playing time.

They could potentially work in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Firmino dropping deep, but that may be too attacking against top class opponents, in my opinion. The midfield could be at risk of being outrun and it would be a case of fitting too many superstars into the same starting line-up.

It is a pipe dream of a transfer, in my opinion, with long-term admirers Real Madrid arguably more likely to pay his vast wages and price tag. The lure of playing under his hero Zinedine Zidane at Santiago Bernabeu could also appeal to the Frenchman.
