Werner’s move to Liverpool could be affected by lack of playing time

Timo Werner’s potential move to Liverpool could be affected by a possible lack of playing time, according to the Independent’s Melissa Reddy.

The 23-year-old was again linked with a move to Anfield over the weekend, as the Reds continue to weigh up summer transfer plans.

While Reddy states that Jurgen Klopp is a big fan of Werner, she also mentions that not being an automatic starter could be an issue.

The German striker is a key man for RB Leipzig, already scoring 25 goals in all competitions this season.

I think this was always going to be a potential problem with regards to Werner joining Liverpool. In Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino, the Reds arguably have the most feared attacking unit in world football, enjoying a combined 53 goals involvements in 2019/20 to date.

Fitting Werner in alongside such an indispensable trio will be tough without affecting the balance, and it may be that he sees his future lying elsewhere. That being said, with Robert Lewandowski still firing at Bayern, I struggle to see him leading the line every week at the Allianz Arena, too.

Werner not being promised a regular starting berth has always felt like one of the biggest drawbacks in him potentially heading to Anfield – especially with the 2022 World Cup not too far in the distance. Remaining at Leipzig beyond the summer could be the safer option for Werner, if he wants regular first-team football.
