Werner ‘really wants’ Liverpool move

Timo Werner “really wants to move to Liverpool”, according to The Athletic’s Simon Hughes.

The German could leave RB Leipzig at the end of the season, with the Reds tipped to make a move for him soon.

Werner has flirted with a move to Anfield and this update suggests a transfer could be on the cards.

Speaking on The Red Agenda podcast [03/03/20 – 51:35], Hughes provided the latest on the situation, reiterating his previous thoughts and saying the striker wants Liverpool over anyone else.

He really wants to move to Liverpool. It looks like the next few weeks might see some movement. They’re going to be trying to do things a little quieter. He’s desperate to play for Liverpool.

Of all the players Liverpool have been linked with recently, I think Werner is the best possible signing. He is nearly 24, which means he could arrive at an ideal age, ready to thrive in the Premier League with his best years ahead of him.

Not only does he have 27 goals to his name this season, but he is also famed for his versatility, allowing him to play centrally or out wide. He has the pace to be a threat from out on the left, as he was against Bayer Leverkusen at the weekend, or be more of a poacher through the middle.

I could envisage a situation where Werner is eased in to begin with, much like Takumi Minamino is currently, before playing a bigger role later in the season, especially with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane playing in the Africa Cup of Nations early next year.
