Virgil van Dijk has laid into critics who are playing down Liverpool’s impending Premier League glory.
The Reds have had a poor week, suffering back-to-backs away to Watford and Chelsea.
It means Liverpool’s treble dream has died, while their Champions League tie against Atletico Madrid is also up in the air.
Speaking to Goal, Van Dijk criticised those who cannot appreciate what an incredible achievement winning the league would be.
Just end up with the Premier League? Yeah? Just? It’s just a small thing is it? We also won the Super Cup and the World Cup of [club] teams.
In life, there are people that are not always satisfied. They are always looking for negative things in life.
That’s just the reality. Either you’re going to think about these things and go on with it and go on with that negative spirit, or you just focus on the good things, and I’m definitely focusing on the good things. We are in a very good situation.
Close to what we all hope to achieve. Let’s just go for it, enjoy it. Tonight is a big blow but we were playing against a very good side. Let’s focus on ‘just’ the Premier League, because it’s very small, huh?

Van Dijk is absolutely spot on his assessment, with the overreaction typically over-the-top in recent days.
Liverpool have simply suffered a mini-blip like any team does – it is easy to forget that they have still dropped just five points all season.
The primary objective was to win a maiden Premier League crown and the Reds are on the verge of delivering it emphatically.
While winning the treble would have been wonderful, and going through in the Champions League is clearly important, finally sealing league glory takes precedence by a mile.
