Does surprise Werner update open the door for Liverpool to sign Sancho?

Liverpool could sign Timo Werner this summer, before loaning him straight back out to RB Leipzig.

That’s according to Goal’s Ronan Murphy on Twitter, who cites Bild as the original source behind the story.

Werner has been continually tipped to join Liverpool in recent months, following another strong season for Leipzig, scoring 27 goals in all competitions.

The 24-year-old was dropped by the Bundesliga club on Saturday, however, following comments about potentially joining a bigger team.

I can see a scenario where Liverpool do loan Werner back out, as well as signing Jadon Sancho this summer.

The thought of having both stars at Anfield next season as well as Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino may be exciting, but Jurgen Klopp could find it tough to keep them all happy.

Sending Werner back on loan would alleviate this issue and I could see a scenario where one of the current front-three leaves next year when the German returns.

By that point, Salah, Mane and Firmino will all be 29 and one might feel they have one more big move left in them, with Liverpool cashing in in the process.

Should a move for Sancho not occur, however, I don’t see the need to loan Werner back out, with improved squad depth in the Reds’ attack vital.
