Liverpool will have to pay £70 million for the services of Adama Traore this summer, but Timo Werner represents a far more sensible option.

According to Football Insider, Wolves won’t accept anything below that amount for their star winger, who has shone this season.

The Spaniard has four goals and seven assists to his name in 2019/20, using his incredible pace to good use, but also providing better end product than in the past.

One of Traore’s assists came against Liverpool, on a night when the Reds won 2-1 at Molineux – when the wide man showed how effective he can be.

Despite this, I still believe Jurgen Klopp should steer clear of signing the 24-year-old, given the vast sums of money Wolves are demanding.

Were he available for around £20 million or £30 million, I could see some sense in taking a punt on him, but £70 million suggests Traore is a world-class player.

That simply isn’t the case, however, and despite him catching the eye this season, it shouldn’t be forgotten that he can remain hit-and-miss with his final ball. Considering how often he gets to the byline thanks to his speed, he should arguably pick up more assists.

Traore only got one goal and assist apiece in the league last season, for example, so he is yet to prove that he can do it consistently at the top level over two years.

On the flip side, Werner is someone with proven pedigree over a sustained period, not only scoring 27 goals in 2019/20, but also netting 88 times in 150 appearances for RB Leipzig overall.

Not only that, but the striker could be even cheaper than Traore this summer, with his release clause believed to be £53 million. Should that prove to be the case, it is simply a no-brainer as to who Liverpool should sign this summer.

While Traore may end up maturing even more as an all-round player, there is a clear risk element in spending £70 million on him. Werner, on the other hand, could feel like a potential bargain at £53 million.
