Liverpool line up Domagoj Vida as Dejan Lovren replacement
Liverpool are lining up a deal to sign Besiktas defender Domagoj Vida this summer, with Jurgen Klopp apparently keen to bring in a veteran to potentially replace Dejan Lovren.
Turkish outlet Yeni Asir claim that the Reds are set to reignite their interest in Vida, who they were apparently keen to sign 18-months ago.
Lovren’s future at Anfield is far from certain, and with the defender set to enter the final year of his current Liverpool contract, the Reds might look to cash in on him this summer.
If that is the case, then Liverpool will need another player in their squad to provide defensive cover and it looks like Vida could be that man.

I believe that the best way to improve a squad is to buy players who are better than a club’s current starters, with those usual first-choice players then going on to become squad players.
However, even in normal circumstances, it would be difficult to see Liverpool being able to buy a player who could replace Joe Gomez as the club’s first-choice defender alongside Virgil van Dijk.
Given the state of the world at this moment in time, it’s even more unlikely that they’d be willing to make such a deal.
Therefore, signing Vida could make sense. He could come in as the Reds’ fourth choice defender, behind Gomez, Van Dijk and Joel Matip, and provide cover to those three.
In a way, it would be a similar signing to when Klopp brought in Ragnar Klavan to add depth to his defensive options.
Some Liverpool fans have had enough of Lovren and would be keen to see him leave. If this report is true, they may finally get their wish.
