Liverpool linked with move for Tanguy Ndombele

Liverpool are reportedly interested in a move to sign Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Tanguy Ndombele, according to a report from his native France.

Spurs paid an initial £55m to sign the French international from Lyon last summer but that was under the management of Mauricio Pochettino.

According to the report from France, new Spurs boss Jose Mourinho has been less than impressed with the 23-year-old and as such, the London club might be tempted to cash in on the midfielder in order to give the new manager some funds to make his own signings.

Liverpool were apparently interested in signing the Frenchman before he moved to Tottenham and they apparently still hold that interest in him.

The report from France claims that the Reds are willing to pay Spurs a fee to take Ndombele on loan next season, in a deal that would include an option to buy.

This transfer, if it did go through would be stunning to us for a number of reasons.

Firstly, to see Tottenham give up on their record signing after one injury-hit sea would be a huge surprise, although a change of management could give them an excuse to move the player on if they’ve had a change of heart.

Secondly, if Tottenham really do want to move on from the 23-year-old, selling him to a domestic rival would make little sense. Liverpool are already miles ahead of Spurs in the league table and the London club choosing to strengthen the Reds’ squad even further would be strange.

Finally, if Daniel Levy does let Ndombele go, then it would make much more sense for him to be sold straight away rather than the midfielder going out on loan before Spurs cash in.

From Liverpool’s point of view, a loan for Ndombele could make sense, especially if the option to buy is indeed an option and not an obligation.

It would allow them to look at the player close up in order to decide if they’d like to sign him on a permanent basis.
