It was on this day 12 months ago where Divock Origi became a legend at Liverpool as his goal secured victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the 2019 Champions League final.

Fast forward a year and Liverpool’s hero of Madrid is now being linked with a move away from Anfield, as part of a player-plus-cash deal for Napoli star Kalidou Koulibaly.

According to a report from Napoli Magazine, The Reds are ready to offer €60m plus Origi for the Senegalese defender.

The reports in the Italian press linking the Reds with a move for Koulibaly have shown no sign of slowing down over the last few weeks.

Liverpool have been mentioned as potential suitors for the 28-year-old for a number of weeks, but the reported asking price of around €100m made it almost impossible to see any move coming to fruition.

However, including Origi in the deal to lower the fee is something that makes a transfer for Koulibaly make more sense.

Despite his heroics of last year, it looks like Liverpool are looking for an upgrade on Origi, given the links to Timo Werner.

If the Reds are looking to move on from the Belgian, then using him as a way to reduce the asking price for Koulibaly would be another piece of smart work by Liverpool’s recruitment team.
