Liverpool are one of five clubs interested in signing £40million-rated David Brooks this week, along with Manchester United and Everton.

That’s according to the Daily Mail, who believe the Bournemouth and Wales midfielder could leave before Friday’s EFL transfer deadline.

Tottenham and Leicester City are noted as the other two interested parties, ahead of a potential scrap for Brooks’ signature.

The 23-year-old joined Bournemouth from Sheffield United in the summer of 2018, scoring eight goals in 46 appearances for the Cherries. They are keen to keep hold of him, with no desperate need to sell.

Brooks is an extremely talented young footballer, but it is hard to see where he would fit in at Liverpool.

With fellow Welshman Harry Wilson likely to leave Anfield this week, is he really a major upgrade on him? It suggests Brooks isn’t needed, either.

There are so many strong options at Jurgen Klopp’s disposal that is easy to see Brooks getting somewhat lost at Liverpool, failing to play regularly and not kicking on in his career.

In midfield, the likes of Fabinho, Thiago, Jordan Henderson, Gini Wijnaldum, Naby Keita, James Milner and Curtis Jones are already vying for playing time, while further forward, established internationals such as Takumi Minamino and Diogo Jota are only squad players.

In past eras, when Liverpool weren’t one of Europe’s best teams, taking a punt on Brooks would have made sense, times have changed, though.
