Sam Allardyce believes Jurgen Klopp should demand an explanation from the officials, following last weekend’s Merseyside derby farce.

Liverpool drew 2-2 away to Everton at Goodison Park last Saturday, on an afternoon that saw the Reds robbed a number of times.

Virgil van Dijk’s season has likely been ended by a dreadful Jordan Pickford tackle, but the goalkeeper somehow wasn’t sent-off for the challenge.

Jordan Henderson was also denied a famous last-gasp winner, when it looked as though Sadio Mane was in an onside position, despite being given offside by VAR.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Allardyce revealed what he would have done in a similar scenario, urging Klopp to do the same:

I just wonder, is VAR 100 per cent accurate? I would say it isn’t. I would say there’s a margin for error on the technology that has to be looked at.

When you have such as small margin for whether a player is offside or onside, I think it needs to be looked into.

If I was Jurgen Klopp, I would be down asking for a full demonstration of how an offside result is compiled by VAR, to satisfy myself that they did get the right decision.

I would ask and see if there is a small margin of error, and maybe human error that comes into play that’s got to be looked at and see if we can eradicate it.

It was a very disappointing end for Liverpool.

The derby has to go down as one of the most unjust results in Liverpool’s recent history.

Not only did the Reds outplay their top-of-the-table rivals, but every major decision went against them horribly.

On another day, Pickford would have received a red card and a penalty would have been given, with Van Dijk also looking level with Everton’s defenders before he got taken down.

That would likely have seen Liverpool go 2-0 up against 10 men and the derby would have been over as a contest.

Klopp has every right to be livid with the officials and Allardyce’s approach is arguably the correct one. Such errors should not be ignored.
