Liverpool are “no longer as hungry as before”, claims Paolo Di Canio

Liverpool are “no longer as hungry” for success this season, according to former West Ham striker Paolo Di Canio.

The Reds finally secured Premier League glory in 2019/20, following a 30-year wait for another league title at Anfield. Jurgen Klopp’s men also won the Champions League the previous year in what has been a glorious period in the club’s history.

Liverpool’s performances are yet to truly impress this season, though, and Di Canio has doubts about them moving forward.

Speaking to L’Eco Di Bergamo, with quotes provided by the Daily Express, the Premier League legend gave his thoughts on the Reds’ potential success, saying their have lost hunger:

Liverpool are no longer as hungry as before, of course. They’ve just won the league after thirty years of abstinence, which is huge for a stadium like Anfield.

They lived through the successes of the two Manchester teams.

I do think it is natural for there to be a slight drop-off in intensity following such a huge achievement, as Manchester City showed last year. That being said, I have no doubt that Liverpool’s hunger and desire to win back-to-back league titles is huge, creating a dynasty under Klopp rather than simply enjoying a short-term period of success.

The Reds haven’t got going yet this season, but they are still top of the table, which speaks volumes.

They have also been riddled with injuries, not least the one to the incomparable Virgil van Dijk, and VAR has seemingly gone against them several times.

Once they fully click into gear, I have no doubt that Liverpool will look like the best team in the country once again.
