Liverpool transfer target Perr Schuurs has responded to reports linking him with a move to Anfield following his appearance at the Merseyside venue on Tuesday night.
The Ajax defender has been earmarked as a potential signing for the Reds as Jurgen Klopp attempts to ease his depleted squad’s injury problems, particularly in the central defensive department.
However, speaking to SBS6 following his side;s 1-0 defeat at the hands of Liverpool, Schuurs didn’t want to expand on the rumours and insisted he is concentrating on winning trophies with the Amsterdam club.
The 21-year-old said: ”Interest from Liverpool in me? I am not busy with that. I want to win trophies with Ajax first and stay here for a couple of seasons.”
Klopp didn’t replace Dejan Lovren in the summer when the Croatian left for Zenit St Petersburg, a decision which seemed perfectly understandable until serious long-term injuries for both both Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez during the autumn.
Schuurs did his credentials no harm across both clashes against Liverpool in the Champions League group stages, despite Ajax losing both games. The Dutch Under-21 international has all the attributes to make it to the very top, including being billed as ‘incredible in possession’ by UEFA-licensed coach and football analyst Tiago Estevao.

Schuurs was never likely to come out all glary-eyed by the prospect of making a transfer to the club who had just beaten his current employers in a crucial Champions League clash.
In many ways, his patient approach towards his own progression is to be commended – however, Klopp may well be desperate to be the man to help nurture the defender’s progression.
With a reported asking price of £27m – a mere drop in the water given the fees in prising other Dutch defenders away from their clubs of late – Liverpool will almost certainly be having conversations at the very least.
The prospect of playing alongside a fit-again Van Dijk may tempt Schuurs further by the prospect of making Anfield his new home.
