Andy Robertson has revealed that he wore a Chelsea shirt last season, before their victory over Manchester City that won Liverpool the Premier League title.
The Reds were crowned champions for the first time in 30 years back in June, cruising to glory in memorable fashion.
It was Chelsea’s 2-1 win at home to City that sealed the title for Jurgen Klopp’s men, with Liverpool’s players watching on joyously.
Speaking to FourFourTwo, Robertson spoke about wearing a Blues shirt in order to get behind the west Londoners, although it wasn’t received too well by his teammates on a group chat:
When it came to that night in June – when Manchester City lost at Chelsea and we were confirmed as champions – the club had everything organised for us on the back of beating Crystal Palace 4-0 the day before. We had a hotel booked out and a barbecue arranged.
I won’t lie: I do have a Chelsea shirt in my possession, and I may have jokingly stuck it on for the boys in our group chat ahead of the game. It didn’t go down well, and I got the bites I was hoping for. It doesn’t quite fit: it’s Billy Gilmour’s, so a bit small for me!

It is typical of Robertson’s jokey character that he was the one to don a Chelsea jersey, with the Scot one of the biggest characters in the Liverpool dressing room.
His infectious personality no doubt helps keep team spirit strong, with his comic edge shown on recent ‘Wingmen’ episodes with Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Robertson is going to be a key figure on Wednesday night, as Liverpool’s host Tottenham in a top-of-the-table clash, looking to keep Spurs’ attack quiet.
