RB Leipzig are not entertaining the idea of selling Dayot Upamecano in January, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano on Twitter.
The 22-year-old is one of a host of centre-backs to have been linked with Liverpool in recent months, as they weigh up the prospect of making reinforcements this month.
Jurgen Klopp has hinted that there will be no business in this transfer window, and it appears as though their chances of signing Upamecano are non-existent.
Romano claims that Leipzig ‘are not open’ to letting the Frenchman leave in January, although his £42million release clause is likely to be triggered by someone in the summer.
RB Leipzig are not open to sell Dayot Upamecano in January. He’s expected to leave the club next summer – many clubs interested and set to open talks with his agent. The release clause value is €42m. ⛔️ #transfers #Leipzig

It is no great surprise to see Leipzig refusing to allow Upamecano to exit midway through the season, especially with a Champions League clash with Liverpool on the horizon.
If the youngster is a genuine target for the Reds, however, it could be that he arrives once the campaign reaches it conclusion.
His £42million price tag is relatively cheap in the current climate – he has already made 134 appearances for Leipzig and is also a France international.
With both Joe Gomez and Joel Matip injury-prone, and Virgil van Dijk turning 30 this year, Klopp has to be looking at making additions at the back this summer.
