Liverpool are eyeing up a surprise summer move for Renato Sanches, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano on the Here We Go podcast [via The Boot Room].
It looks set to be a quiet January in the transfer market at Anfield, but business is expected to be conducted at the end of the season. While much of the focus may be on bringing in a new centre-back, Sanches is also believed to be a summer target.
Romano certainly believes that’s the case, outlining Liverpool’s interest in the Lille attacking midfielder:
Pay attention to Renato Sanches. Next summer he will be on the market and Liverpool are looking at him.
There is nothing advanced yet but they are looking at him as an opportunity. He’ll be a main target for top clubs and also for Liverpool.

It is a curious rumour which has come from nowhere, with Sanches’ stock falling in recent years.
The Portuguese midfielder famously won the 2016 European Golden Boy award, highlighting what a prodigious talent he seemed at the time.
Despite winning Euro 2016 with Portugal, there is no denying that Sanches is not yet reaching his potential, with one failed loan spell at Swansea City in the Premier League summing up his struggles.
That being said, some good performances for Lille, for whom he scored three times last season, suggests he may be on an upward curve.
Sanches is still only 23, so it could be that Jurgen Klopp and Michael Edwards still see plenty of potential in him.
