Mohamed Salah used to be “shy and quiet” at Chelsea, claims Oscar

Former Chelsea star Oscar has revealed that Mohamed Salah used to be “shy and quiet” during their time together at Stamford Bridge.

The Egyptian has matured into one of the most well-known players in world football, producing stunning levels of consistency at Liverpool.

Salah’s first stint in England at Chelsea was a disappointing one, however, with the forward scoring just twice in 19 appearances for the Blues, between 2014 and 2016.

Speaking to Yellow and Green Football, Oscar praised the Liverpool superstar’s quality, but felt a lack of confidence let him down:

He (Salah) was unstoppable during practice, but always shy and quiet off the field.

During the games, I guess he did not have the confidence that we saw at every club he played for after Chelsea, and especially now at Liverpool.

It is hard to picture Salah being so lacking in self-belief, considering what a mentally strong player he has become for the Reds.

The 28-year-old never lets missed opportunities affect him, continuing to create chances and score goals at will, as 113 goals and 45 assists for Liverpool highlight.

It may simply be that Salah was still a young player at Chelsea and Jose Mourinho failed to get the best out of him, prior to him joining Roma and then the Reds.

Not many would have predicted him to reach such a world-class level back then, but it is testament to his mental fortitude that he has overcome that tough period.
