Virals: Ben Davies posts optimistic social media post

Ben Davies signing from Preston North End on transfer deadline day was certainly one of the more left-field moments of a wholly bizarre 2020/21 season.

Arriving alongside Ozan Kabak as emergency defensive cover as Liverpool suffered from numerous injury issues – including losing all three senior central defenders for the entire campaign.

Perhaps topping the bizarre nature of the 25-year-olds arrival, Davies then preceded to go missing somewhat on Merseyside – failing to make a single appearance despite continued problems and an occasional bench sighting.

With speculation among Kopites wondering if the Englishman will ever pull on a Red shirt for a competitive game, Davies has quelled some suspicions with an Instagram post on Thursday, as cited by Watch LFC on Twitter.

It would seem an injury has ruled the Barrow born ace out for a period of his Anfield stay – rather summing up the rotten luck suffered within Jurgen Klopp’s squad in the last 12 months.

Judging by the post, Davies certainly sees his own future as staying at Liverpool and playing a part in what should hopefully be a comeback campaign next year for many.

All being well, Klopp could go from a dearth of options to an embarrassment of riches in the central defensive department next season.

With the hopeful return of Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip seemingly on schedule – Liverpool look set to add Ibrahima Konate to the ranks.

Having reportedly rejected the opportunity to sign Kabak on a permanent basis, Rhys Williams could also find himself out on loan next season in order to continue his development.

That leaves Davies and Nat Phillips as further alternatives – ones who may find regular game time hard to come by given the competition.

Valued at £2.7million (Transfermarkt), were the Anfield transfer team to decide to sell this summer – previous interest from Burnley and Celtic would likely see the Reds make a profit on their £1.6million expenditure.
