Much maligned Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius could be set to bring a permanent end to his time on Merseyside this summer.
Since the painful UEFA Champions League final in 2018 when the German stopper had a night to forget in Kyiv, Karius has been out on loan ever since.
An ill-fated two-year spell with Besiktas ended in inauspicious circumstances before the 27-year-old headed back to his homeland for a season loan stint with Union Berlin.
Despite only making four Bundesliga appearances, the German spoke of his desire to stay on in the capital.
Following the German youth international’s return in essence to the Reds, this week the Liverpool Echo have reported that a permanent switch back to his homeland is the ‘most likely’ outcome, as cited by Anfield Effect on Twitter.

Prior to a series of relatively unsuccessful loan spells, Karius had played 49 times for Jurgen Klopp’s side after being signed for £5.58m from Mainz (Transfermarkt).

In truth, Liverpool have already more or less made their money back on the German ‘keeper and would likely take any incoming fee this summer.
With a need to sell off some deadwood and the reality sets in that Karius will never represent the Reds again, offers in the region of the players £1.8m market value could be welcomed.
Signed to compete with and ultimately surpass Simon Mignolet as Liverpool number one, that night in Kyiv has haunted the stopper ever since.
In terms of a silver lining, that night meant the Reds signed Alisson Becker – one of the very best in the business.
Bizarrely Klopp could potentially be on the hunt for a backup goalkeeper this summer as Adrian reportedly ponders whether to remain as a potential third-choice understudy.
