Liverpool given huge blow in pursuit for £27m striker after agent Mino Raiola demands triple-wage increase

Liverpool have been in hot pursuit of a new forward ahead of the upcoming Premier League season.

It had been previously reported that the club would not look to bring in a new attacker this summer.

However, recent transfer links have now suggested otherwise, with the Reds targetting PSV’s Donyell Malen.

Liverpool are one of the front-running clubs alongside Borussia Dortmund according to reports.

Both teams are in contact with the player’s agent, Mino Raiola, but the Reds have been dealt a huge blow.

According to reports from BILD, via Sport Witness and Football365, Raiola is demanding a triple-wage increase for Malen.

This leaves Liverpool in a tough situation, as the club are operating on limited finances this summer.

Dortmund have found themselves in a much healthier situation compared to the Reds after the sale of Jadon Sancho.

The English winger is set to join Premier League rivals Manchester United, in a £73million deal.

This has left the Bundesliga club with a nice cushion to spend this summer, putting them in pole position for Malen.

Liverpool are in need of further depth up top, with the responsibility often left on the shoulders of Mo Salah and Sadio Mané.

The club did manage to add real quality with the acquisition of Diogo Jota last summer.

However, the Reds are in search of an out-and-out striker, and Malen certainly fits the bill for that.

At just 22-years-old, the £27m-rated striker scored 27 goals for PSV last season and starred for the Netherlands at Euro 2020.

Raiola has certainly put a huge obstacle in the way of Liverpool in their attempts to lure Malen to Anfield.

Although, given his obvious talent and fantastic form last campaign, it is understandable to see why.
