Liverpool reportedly ‘in the running’ to sign Lionel Messi this summer

The transfer window has already thrown up some interesting rumours between Liverpool and Europe’s elite.

With just a week to go until the start of the Premier League, the transfer window is still in full swing.

Liverpool are regularly linked with big players across Europe every day and that latest is certainly in that bracket.

Despite the club being rumoured to be after the likes of Renato Sanches and Youri Tielemans, Lionel Messi has entered the running.

The Liverpool Echo picked up the bookmaker’s odds after Messi’s departure from FC Barcelona was announced.

After 21 years at the Catalan club, the Argentinian is set to leave and Liverpool are reportedly in the running…

As stated in the article by the Liverpool Echo, Liverpool are priced at 25/1 to sign Messi this summer.

Of course, as we would have expected, both PSG and Manchester City are the favourites to sign the forward.

With their spending power, it is clear to see why the pairs would be the obvious destination for Messi.

Well, we think it is safe to say that the possibility of the Reds signing Messi is at an absolute zero.

That’s not to say that the club don’t have the pulling power to attract Messi as they have more than enough.

More the case that his wages will be completely unrealistic for the club to meet given their policy with players.

At 34-years-old, the six-time Ballon d’Or winner is in the twilight years of his career following his Barca exit.

For the Reds, to bring a player in on a free transfer can be expensive enough as it is, let alone Lionel Messi.

James Milner’s deal with the club was pricey enough with the now 35-year-old on £140,000 a week.

Messi to Liverpool was landed before it even took off and it would be silly to believe anything you read about it.

However, there is no doubt that the club will be active in the market still, with a number of players more realistic targets.
