Liverpool attacking midfielder Curtis Jones has been receiving plenty of plaudits following an impressive performance against FC Porto.
Backing up promising displays at Norwich City and Brentford, the 20-year-old was the standout performer as the Reds thrashed the Portuguese giants 5-1 at the Estadio do Dragao.
Having seemingly been the forgotten man earlier in the season when Harvey Elliott came to the fore, Jones has had to be patient for an opportunity.
Speaking on BT Sport, two former Anfield ace’s, Michael Owen and Peter Crouch, were thoroughly impressed with how the youngster had seized the moment.
Crouch said:
Curtis Jones was very impressive tonight. He has excellent feet and was making driving runs at the right time.
An equally impressed Owen was quick to back up the comments:
Before Harvey Elliott got injured, he was the one with the shirt. Curtis Jones has always been around, here and there, but for his sake he needs a long run in the team. When he gets the chance he needs to do what he did tonight.
Jones was credited with two assists – although it could perhaps have been more – as well as completing all four attempted dribbles, three shots on target and three key passes (Sofascore).

This week has been a timely reminder of the young Scouser’s ability.
Following a breakthrough campaign in 2020/21, it did appear that Elliott had usurped the starlet.
These past three performances have shown there is plenty more to come from Jones in a Liverpool shirt.
This latest 8.50 rated outing has certainly put the England Under 21 international in contention for a start against Manchester City on Sunday.
