Kevin Campbell tips Naby Keita to get the nod against Manchester City

Former Premier League striker Kevin Campbell has tipped Naby Keita to get the nod ahead of Curtis Jones against Manchester City.

That’s despite the 20-year-old Liverpool attacking midfielder being in scintillating form recently, culminating in a standout display in the 5-1 victory over FC Porto this week.

Jones was also the most impressive Red on show during the pulsating 3-3 draw at Brentford in the Premier League.

However, speaking to Football Insider, former Everton ace Campbell believes a back to full fitness Keita could be preferred.

Jones has been amazing in the past two games and got his goal at the weekend but I think Klopp will go for Keita. Keita is back training and has more experience and in a game like this experience counts for a lot. That’s why I think he’ll just edge it. Jones is seriously knocking on the door though because he is a very good player and has shown it this week. He is definitely pushing for a starting berth.

Capped on six occasions by England at Under 21 level, Jones’ recent upturn in form might’ve earned senior recognition as well as a leading role in Klopp’s plans.

Meanwhile, Keita had been in goalscoring touch last time out in the Premier League, firing home a long-range volley past Crystal Palace goalkeeper Vicente Guaita.

This and the decision over whether to play Roberto Firmino or Diogo Jota are the biggest headaches facing Klopp this weekend.

Two weeks ago Keita would’ve been a shoo-in for this crunch clash, but Jones’ form might’ve earned some loyalty.

Holding a market value of £27million (Transfermarkt), the Scouse midfielder’s stock is certainly on the rise and a strong performance against the reigning champions could wake up the world to the starlet’s abilities.
