Liverpool players are on international duty for the next 10 days. As many as 14 players will be in action, while three players have pulled out in recent days.
The FIFA World Cup is less than 100 days away, and this international break will be the final one for players to impress their national team bosses in training. 14 players from Arne Slot’s side have been called up and will be in action over the next 10 days.
Alisson, Federico Chiesa, and Mohamed Salah were also called up by Brazil, Italy, and Egypt this month. However, the trio have pulled out due to injuries and will remain in England as they recover ahead of the final weeks of the season.
Liverpool players involved in pressure-free games
The FIFA World Cup playoffs take place over the next few days, but none of the Liverpool players are involved. Cheisa was going to be the only one in the mix, but he returns to AXA Training Centre this week after Gennaro Gattuso called it ‘pointless’ to keep him with the national team.
“Chiesa showed up with some physical problems and it was pointless to keep him here.”
Ibrahima Konate and Hugo Ekitike are in action against Brazil on March 26 and Colombia on March 29. The duo are expected to have limited minutes, which will be good news as the players need to get some rest ahead of the busy period.
Moreover, the striker had to come off early in the Brighton & Hove Albion match, but it was brushed aside by Slot as a dead leg issue and nothing more. Andy Robertson is expected to play both matches, as Scotland takes on Japan and the Ivory Coast.
Hungarian duo Milos Kerkez and Dominik Szoboszlai are also expected to be in action in both international matches this month. They face Slovenia and Greece, and should be up against Reds loanee Kostas Tsimikas.
Virgil van Dijk, Jeremie Frimpong, Ryan Gravenberch and Cody Gakpo are a key part of the Netherlands’ squad, as they take on Norway and Ecuador. Georgia face Israel and Lithuania this month, and Giorgi Mamardashvili is expected to play both games.
Alexis Mac Allister is the final senior Liverpool in action this week for the national team. He is expected to play in midfield for Argentina against Mauritania and Qatar, rather than Spain, following the cancellation of the Finalissima.
Liverpool youngsters in UEFA Euro 2026 Elite Round action
Two players on international duty who will be involved in competitive matches this month are Trey Nyoni and Rio Ngumoha. Both youngsters have been called up for the England U19 squad by Will Antwi after impressing with Liverpool.
The teenagers are in UEFA Euro 2026 Elite Round action and will have three matches. They first face Serbia on March 25, followed by Poland three days later.
The final match will be against hosts Portugal, and it will be their only evening game. The match kicks off at 4 pm, while the first two games start at 11 am.
Arne Slot will undoubtedly be watching through his fingers over the next fortnight. While the Liverpool boss will relish the extra time on the training pitch with the likes of Mohamed Salah and Federico Chiesa, the sight of his captain and midfield anchors jet-setting across the globe remains the perennial headache of the modern game.
The priority for Liverpool remains simple: health. With the season reaching its business end and the margins for error in the race of Champions League football next season thinner than ever, Slot’s only real demand is that his “international 14” return to Merseyside in one piece. If they can do that, the Reds will be well-placed to turn this final sprint into a satisfactory season.
