Salah’s exit: former teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold sends heartfelt message to Liverpool legend

The curtain is coming down on one of the most storied careers in Liverpool’s history. Mohamed Salah has confirmed he will depart the club at the end of the season, a move that marks the end of a transformative era for the Reds.

Following an emotional exit announcement on social media, current and former teammates rushed to support the Egyptian forward. Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold shared a particularly close bond during their time together at Anfield, and the former Reds right-back paid a heartfelt tribute to his friend.

Alexander-Arnold responded with a simple red heart emoji

Other key figures, including captain Virgil van Dijk and midfielder Ryan Gravenberch, also shared their support. Gravenberch simply summed up the sentiment of the fanbase by calling Salah a “Legend.”

A legacy in numbers

Salah, 33, joined Liverpool in 2017 from AS Roma, having previously played for El Mokawloon, Basel, Chelsea, and Fiorentina. Since his arrival, his impact has been nothing short of historic.

  • 435 matches played
  • 255 goals scored
  • 122 assists provided

During his tenure, he helped secure a haul of silverware, including two Premier League titles, the Champions League, two Carabao Cups, the FA Cup, the Community Shield, the UEFA Super Cup, and the Club World Cup.

His individual accolades are equally impressive, featuring a record three PFA Player of the Year awards and four Premier League Golden Boots.

Though Salah signed a two-year deal last summer, he will not see out the final year. It is understood that he has agreed to “amend” his £20m-a-year contract to allow for a free transfer a settlement similar to that of former manager Jurgen Klopp in 2024.

While speculation links him to the Saudi Pro League side Al Ittihad or Major League Soccer, his agent, Ramy Abbas Issa, remains tight-lipped: “We do not know where Mohamed will play next season. This also means that no one else knows. Beware of the click-whing attention seekers.”**

The announcement comes amid a difficult season for both the player and the club. Salah has scored just ten goals in all competitions this term, while Liverpool has struggled to defend their title, losing ten league matches.

Despite these challenges, the Reds remain in the hunt for Champions League qualification and are still competing in the quarter-finals of both the Champions League and the FA Cup, giving Salah one last chance to finish his Liverpool career on a high.
