Liverpool have 14 players out on international duty this week, and six of them were in action on Wednesday 25th March and Thursday 26th.
Alisson, Mohamed Salah and Federico Chiesa were among those who were called up, but had to pull out following recent injuries.
The trio are recovering and are expected to be back in action after the international break.
Hugo Ekitike and Ibrahima Konate were in action for France against Brazil
Despite fears of a long-term layoff, Ekitike joined the France squad at Clairefontaine earlier this week. It turns out the issue was only a painful “dead leg” from a collision with James Milner.
Hugo Ekitike and Ibrahima Konate started against Brazil in Massachusetts and were on the winning side with France. The striker started on the left wing and scored in the 65th minute before coming off a minute later.
Playing 66 minutes, he looked sharp and mobile, which is a massive boost for Arne Slot given that Alexander Isak and Mohamed Salah are still working their way back to full fitness.
He earned high praise from FootMercato, who gave him a stunning 6.5/10 rating and wrote:
“The Liverpool player was deployed on the left wing of the French attack tonight. He didn’t seem entirely comfortable in this role, appearing unsure of his positioning relative to his attacking teammates. He frequently cut inside and swapped positions with Mbappé, and was quite useful in the game, particularly as a target man.
“In the second half, he was decisive with a lovely goal, somewhat reminiscent of Kylian Mbappé’s, perfectly finishing the move in front of the Brazilian goalkeeper with a chipped shot (0-2, 65th minute). He was also the one who initiated the move. He was then replaced by Désiré Doué.”
Konate played the whole game and was the main defender for the French side, with Dayot Upamecano getting sent off 10 minutes into the second half. Kylian Mbappe scored the opener for France, while Bremer pulled one back late in the game against Brazil, which ended 2-1.
Liverpool goalkeepers in international action
Giorgi Mamardashvili started in goal for Georgia and played the full match against Israel. He conceded two goals in a 2-2 draw, and managed to make just one save in the entire match.
With Alisson out injured, the former Valencia star needs to find his form swiftly as he will be playing a lot for Liverpool in the coming weeks.
The Brazilian is expected to be out for some time, making the Georgian the main goalkeeper for the next 4-6 weeks.
Armin Pecsi played at the U21 level for Hungary but was on the losing side. Ran Binyamin scored the lone goal as Israel U21 won the friendly game.
Liverpool youngsters in action on Wednesday
Trey Nyoni started the match for England U19 against Serbia, while Rio Ngumoha came off the bench. The young lions lost 2-0 but have a chance to bounce back soon as they face Poland U19 next on March 28 before taking on Portugal U19 on March 31.
Elsewhere, Liverpool loanee Lewis Koumas was an unused substitute as Wales crashed out of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers. They were knocked out after losing to Bosnia & Herzegovina in the penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw.
Up next, Jeremie Frimpong, Cody Gakpo, Ryan Gravenberch, and Virgil van Dijk should be in action today, March 27, when the Netherlands take on Norway. Florian Wirtz is also expected to be in action when Germany take on Switzerland.
