Dominik Szoboszlai discloses behind-scenes talk with wife as Liverpool dream revealed

Share
  • Dominik Szoboszlai has been one of Liverpool’s best players this season
  • He has 20 goals and assists in all competitions
  • Some of his antics have been put under the microscope

Liverpool Dominik Szoboszlai has lifted the lid on a private chat he had with his wife, as Liverpool look to end the season on a good note.

Despite winning the Premier League last year and spending £446million on new signings in the summer, the Reds have had a dismal campaign, sitting fifth in the table with seven games left.

Having already been knocked out of domestic cup competitions, Liverpool’s hopes of success lie in the UEFA Champions League, where they face Paris Saint-Germain in the quarter-finals.

Meanwhile, Szoboszlai has been a shining light for Arne Slot’s side this season, bagging 12 goals and eight assists in 44 games across all competitions.

The attacker’s performances have even caused speculation over his future, with a potential transfer to Real Madrid mooted.

Some of his antics have also drawn criticism from the fans. Most recently, he was seen gesturing at the Liverpool supporters who had stayed on until the end of the 4-0 defeat against Manchester City in the FA Cup quarter-final on Saturday, 4 April.

Although many have since questioned his commitment towards the Merseyside-based club, Glen Johnson is among those who have come to his defence.

Liverpool fans will love what Szoboszlai told his wife

Szoboszlai has now seemingly stressed his commitment towards the Reds by expressing his desire to play in the Champions League final this season.

Reaching the final would mean more for the 25-year-old as the match is set to be held at the Puskas Arena in Budapest, Hungary.

The opportunity to lift the Old Big Ears in his home country is certainly enticing for the former RB Leipzig talisman.

Szoboszlai recently admitted that he is struggling not to think about going to the final in Budapest, although he does not like talking about it.

He also revealed that he has spoken to his wife, Borka Buzsik, about the dream.

Speaking in an interview (3 April), he said: “I don’t like to talk about it, but it’s still impossible not to think about it. So sometimes I just have a little hint in my head or talk with my wife about how it would be. I can’t imagine, to be honest, being there and playing in the final. That’s what I’m working for every day.”

Szoboszlai can be future Reds captain

It is true that Szoboszlai has allowed his emotions to get the better of him on occasion, as evidenced by his actions at full-time at the Etihad Stadium last Saturday.

However, there is no denying that the Hungarian is one of Liverpool’s most important players right now.

With Mohamed Salah departing at the end of the season and Virgil van Dijk, 34, nearing the end of his career, the Reds are in dire need of leaders to take the team forward.

Szoboszlai certainly fits that bill, considering he already wears the armband for the Hungary national team.

With some mentorship, the attacker has what it takes to be Liverpool’s next captain.
